Aloha Everyone!
We wish you a Winter season of peace, love and hope. From the shortened days of the Winter Solstice come more light and our rainy season making it a great time to plant. We will be having our Winter Sale February 14 and 15 where everything, except White Pineapple plants, will be 20% off. We have just grafted hundreds of avocados and they should be ready at that time. The avocado varieties available are Kahaluu, Linda, Yamagata, Sharwil, Share Well, Malama, Green Gold and Kona Gold.
We celebrated Arbor Day November 2 by giving away about 65 Kukui Nut trees. The event was well received and hopefully the trees were planted and will thrive calling in more rain and purifying the water as it passes down the mountain.
November 26, we celebrated Thanksgiving on Taco Tuesday by sharing Chiles Rellenos with about 30 people. Suzanne Waldman showed me how to make them; from blistering the skins, deseeding them, stuffing them with cheese, whipping up a meringue of egg whites and folding in the yolks, dipping the chiles and baking to go along with a spicy tomato sauce. Luka Stam, a fisherman and farmer from Milolii, baked six flats of Ono enchiladas and made the Spanish rice. Others shared homemade tortillas, chips and guacamole, and potato salad. Finally, desserts were not forgotten. An exquisite cheesecake appeared with berry-like leaves and creamy goodness. Eric DePeralta, stalwart founder of this farm, arrived with an apple-crumble and nothing was left. It was true WE community spirit.
Together, we gave thanks to our Creator by giving thanks and blessing as sacred His Creation, not just a place for domination. From the stars and sun and moon, to the water and fish, to the sky and air and birds, to the plants and animals and herbs, we gave greetings and thanks. But we left one out! Fortunately, Earl Louis was with us and reminded us of the fire and Madame Pele who takes what she wants as she builds the land. Earl gave a Hawaiian mele and blessed the four directions of the wind; east, west, north and south as he blew the conch in perfect harmony and aloha. Then, we ate and shared our manao, which gave our gathering meaning. And now our minds are one.

"Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8
